Simon Weitzman, MD

I was born in Caracas, Venezuela and attended medical school at The Central University of Venezuela. Following  graduation in 1971 I moved to Israel where I completed an Internship and a two year Residency in General Internal Medicine. In 1974, my family and I moved to the United States for a Fellowship in Medical Oncology at the Dana - Farber Cancer Institute (Harvard Medical School). My activities there included research as well as patient care. Later, while still affiliated with the Farber Center and Brigham & Women's Hospital, I spent two years at the Boston City Hospital in the Medical Oncology department.

For 20 years I practiced community oncology at the then called Glover hospital [today is called Beth Israel hospital-Needham]. Being able to get first class oncology care close to home is an advantage for many patients and my relationship with the Farber Center was very helpful. In 1997 our group established a relationship with The Brigham and Women's Hospital while remaining locally affiliated with the Beth Israel-Deaconess Hospital in Needham and also the Newton Wellesley Hospital in Newton. At that time I decided to change my practice and elected to concentrate in providing general Internal Medicine care. I stopped practicing oncology although remain very interested in the field.

In 2009, I decided to reduce the size of my practice to a much smaller number of patients and became affiliated with the MDVIP organization. This concierge type practice [which I continue to practice today], allows me to spend much more time with my patients. The knowledge I have accumulated over 30+ years along with the professional relationships I have developed, give me and my patients access to the finest of doctors while being available 24/7. I enjoy medicine at this pace.

My wife Rachel and I have two children and 3 grandchildren; we are fluent in Spanish and Hebrew.
